Transparent Cost Structures for the care you need

Privacy Matters: Insurance companies often require therapists to provide a mental disorder diagnosis, share updates on your diagnosis, and disclose your progress. We believe in protecting your privacy, which is why we don't participate directly with insurance.

Control Over Services: Accepting insurance means that insurance companies decide how much we are paid for our services. By operating privately, we can focus on offering the best care without external constraints. We are able to give you the care you deserve without the constraints of a third party’s rules.

Understanding Your Coverage: We encourage you to explore your insurance policy's mental health services coverage and how to access any out-of-network benefits before starting therapy. Feel free to reach out to your insurance plan administrator or your college's student services office if you have questions about your coverage.

INITIAL CONSULTATION

15 minutes with the TCPs to learn more about their mental health concerns and how they can work with TCP.

*Investment - Complimentary

INITIAL EVALUATION

This is a 2-hour process. One hour is with the college student to learn about their physical and mental health history. The other hour is with parents learning about the early life of their college student. This session will take place only with the permission of the college student who is over the age of 18. Confidential information about the student will not be shared with the parents without explicit permission. During this process, TCP will collaborate with your existing therapist (if applicable), and gather information from former psychiatrists and/or therapists. Upon completion of these two hours the college student will receive a preliminary diagnosis and work with TCP to co-create a treatment plan. This treatment plan may include recommendations for lifestyle changes, psychotherapy, and/or medication support.

*Investment - $1,200 with parent involvement. $600 without parent involvement.

psychotherapy

TCP tailors psychotherapy to the student. TCP offers psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and many other therapies. Psychodynamic therapy is also known as "talk" therapy and helps the student understand how their past may be impacting their present. Talk therapy is also helpful in understanding how social interactions, culture, and politics impact mental health. CBT is helpful in providing students with skills to heal from depression, anxiety, OCD, and low self-esteem. For the greatest benefit, we recommend students engage with weekly psychotherapy for at least 3 months but most students find the greatest benefit working with TCP for 6-12 months.

*Investment - $600 for 50-minute psychotherapy.

MEDICATION SUPPORT

Based on the outcome of the initial evaluation and co-created treatment plan, the student can begin a recommended medication. TCP is regularly evaluating the effect of medication for signs of improvement, worsening, and side effects. To monitor the effect, TCP will meet with the student once per month and more frequently, if necessary. Once the student is stable on the medication, meetings will decrease in frequency to once every 3-12 months. TCP can only prescribe controlled substances (stimulants for ADHD) for students living in IL, MA, or TX.

*Investment - $600 for 50-minute appointments. $350 for 25-minute appointments.

PARENT UPDATE

With the student’s permission, TCP will provide quarterly updates about the student’s progress. This also provides an opportunity for parents to share their observations about their young adult.

*Investment - $600 for 50-minute appointments. $350 for 25-minute appointments.

  • Confidentiality

Privacy and confidentiality are crucial in mental health treatment. As a private practice prioritize patient confidentiality and adhere to strict privacy regulations. We don’t are not obliged to share your personal information or care specifics with insurance companies or any other third party.

  • PERSONALIZED CARE

As a private practice we can provide more personalized and individualized care compared to larger institutions. Psychiatrists in private practice typically have fewer patients, allowing them to spend more time with each individual and develop a deeper understanding of their needs.

  • CONTINUITY OF CARE

When working with a private psychiatrist, there is a higher likelihood of seeing the same doctor consistently. This promotes continuity of care, as the psychiatrist becomes familiar with your history, treatment plans, and progress. Building a long-term therapeutic relationship can enhance the effectiveness of treatment.

  • CUSTOMIZED TREATMENT APPROACH

As private psychiatrists we have more freedom to tailor treatment approaches based on individual needs. We have the autonomy to choose from a wide range of therapeutic modalities and medication options, ensuring a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your specific goals and preferences.

Can My Insurance Cover This?

Unfortunately, the US healthcare system isn’t student-friendly. It relies on private insurance, which often makes it harder to get the help you need, especially for mental health.

That’s why, like many private psychiatry practices, The College Psychiatrist doesn’t work directly with insurance. We are a practice that allows you the ability to work with the whole family, so we are happy to set up a call with your parents to talk about getting you access to the care you need.
